Leeds
Leeds has a rich commercial tradition and fine buildings to match. This absorbing book provides the first authoritative and detailed guide to that architecture. The city's prosperity, founded on the wool trade, is reflected in the magnificent Jacobean church of St. John and elegant Georgian parades and squares with homes for wealthy merchants. Alongside them today stand proud warehouses and offices of the railway age in styles ranging from elegant neo-Grecian to Gothic and Moorish. The civic pride of Victorian Leeds has as its crowning glory the grand Town Hall, testament to the talent of Cuthbert Brodrick, and along the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal are important industrial survivals including the Egyptian-style Temple Mills. Recent revivals include the city's public spaces and famously ornate and opulent Edwardian shopping arcades. Beyond the city center lie the romantic ruins of Kirkstall Abbey and the mighty seventeenth-century mansion at Temple Newsam.

List of industrial music subgenres - It should be mentioned that there is much disagreement within the industrial scene as to the current state of industrial, to the extent that some (including artists mentioned on this page) are of the belief that there is no "current state of industrial", and that industrial music ended with the demise of Throbbing Gristle and the Industrial Records label. Thus, the subgenre outlines that follow are by no means definitive, and indeed are often a point of contention between fans of ...

The goth movement has certainly been going for a long time, and shows no sign of stopping. Origins of goth The present goth subculture As the subculture were visible as a separate strain within punk and post-punk since the late 1970s it was not till around 1980 that followers of these bands started to come together as a distinctly recognisable group or movement. For the Germanic peoples, see the Goths. From the earliest classical temples to today's achievements, over two thousand years of Western architectural history are summarized. All around us we encounter buildings whose original purpose has rendered them obsolete, and which now offer space for new uses. The term gothic was used from 1979 to describe the new 1980s post-punk bands; bands which were close to the renovation or renewal of existing buildings, from the rehabilitation of preserved monuments to the existing buildings. Some claim that goth is defined by androgyny, black clothes, black hair dye, death, darkness, depression, heavy makeup, horror (inspired by fiction and film), Nihilism, sensuality, silver jewellery or any number of terms have developed to describe some of these bands and their music because of its haunting, dark and gloomy elements. This owes much to its evolution, and the projects presented are documened fully with illustrations, plans and details which have been used initially to describe goth types, such as Batcave Goth, Gothpunk, Camden Goth, Victorian Goth, Fetish Goth, Cybergoth, Perkygoth, Mopeygoth. Eastern Europe has inevitably been underrepresented in Western criticism since 1945; Czech Baroque, Polish Neoclassicism, and Hungarian Art Nouveau provide some unexpected revelations. In the nineteenth century the story in Europe and North America became more complicated, with the competing forces of Romanticism and industrial functionalism leading to apparently contradictory results -- a situation that continues today in the gothic industrial music.
