80s Music Techno
Rave America: New School Dancescapes by Mireille Silcott, For the last three years the sale of Technics 1200 turntables (used by DJs in-clubs) have outstripped those of electric guitars. American raves have gone from parties involving a few hundred people to commercially sponsored festivals drawing tens of thousands of fans. Clubland America is the first book devoted to this massive phenomenon. Through hundreds of interviews with DJs, recording artists, producers, promoters, drug lords, club celebrities, and nightworld casualties, this book takes readers into the deepest recesses of America's electronic dance culture, uncovering secrets and stories never before seen in print. Clubland America begins with a whirlwind tour of American club culture in the 70s and 80s, then plunges into the diverse sounds, sights, and histories of some of America's most vital rave territories: the deafening walls of sound of DJ Frankie Bones's earliest New York Storm raves; the acid-fuelled dreams of San Francisco's hippiefied Full Moon beach parties; Florida's DJ Icey and his factions of teenage breakdancers on Ecstasy; the dark Satanic techno rituals of the Midwest's Drop Bass Network; the twelve-hour post-Aids "muscle raves" of the cross-country gay circuit parties. Clubland examines both the dreams and nightmares of a pre-millennium country after dark.
Techno music - Techno is a form of electronic music that emerged in the mid-1980s and primarily refers to a particular style founded in Germany and developed in and around Detroit and subsequently adopted by European producers. The term "techno" is often incorrectly used in North America and Europe to describe all forms of electronic dance music. Julius Papp - With a name like Julius Papp, in the electronic music circles, most would expect grinding techno or minimalist beats. On the contrary, Julius is a house music producer and DJ whose roots lie in Disco of the '70s and New Wave of the '80s. Bouncy techno - Bouncy techno is a style of music circa 1992, mostly emanating from the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Originally, it was influenced by the music found in the rave scenes in the north of the United Kingdom (Scotland, North East England, Northern Ireland) and the Netherlands, where European produced techno music was widely played in the very early 1990s. Detroit techno - The term Detroit techno refers to a style of techno music in the tradition of early (1985–1995) techno recordings from Detroit, Michigan; it does not necessarily indicate the music's geographic origin. A distinguishing trait of Detroit techno is the use of analog synthesizers and early drum machines for its production or — increasingly — the digital emulation of the characteristic sound of those machines.
